| hey y'all!!!
i'm baaaaaack for spring break!
yes oh yes! spring break! =D back in the cityy....
sigh.. harvard life has been good, but really busy and really hectic... my life has been basically overrun by public service in chinatown.. haha really good and fun, but very time consuming.. =] (oh that's boston's chinatown btw)... i feel like this entry's prolly gonna be a summing up of harvaard life... for the past 2 years... haha so reader's beware!
freshman year...
wow.. that was a total blast. except chem 15. but anyways... lol we won't talk of that lil bit... i think i mostly realized that college isn't that different from high school in terms of social life. at least at harvard. most ppl will tell you that harvard's social life sux. but from my personal experience - it's what you make of it, kinda like stuy.. =] as long as you've got the optimistic outlook on it, the social life is great. i've made many great friends, and i'm really satisfied with my social experience. the extracurricular life was fantastic. from gumboots (south african step dancing) to 08 steppers, from c-sharp to chinatown afterschool, from helping out with AAA, CSA, TCS, and so much more... it was literally the most fulfilling experience i've had yet at harvard. i've got to say, the extracurricular experience is priceless. academically, harvard can improve. classes can be taught better, freshman should be allowed more chances to take higher level classes, and i think the system could be made better.
sophomore year...
discovering chinatown afterschool second term has been a turning point in my life. it's led me to almost everything i do sophomore-year. i've got to say, key club was a huuuge part of my life at stuy, but somehow, chtnasp is my life. hahaha gotta give props to my co-directors, Angel, Annie, and Yaya - my gosh. these people are some of the most dedicated, beautiful individuals ever. co-directing an afterschool program is such a fulfilling experience. working with the kids and counselors, and knowing that you're providing a free service to an otherwise underprivileged community is really something special. sophomore year, has been really academically challenging, as i contemplated switching my major to psychology, then to government-psychology, then back to government, then to government-sociology, then sociology, and now i'm still thinking about it..... (i switched freshman year from biochem to government... lol)... aside from the academic challenges, it's been a long road of trying to find my place in life.. trying to deal with being who i am, and just dealing in general with personal demons and issues. i guess i realized, i'm OK. we're all OK. i'm not a perfect person, but i like who i am. i like what i'm doing with my life, and at this point, i'm so uncertain as to life and career goals, but i like the direction i'm headed in, so i'm OK with being OK.
i also discovered a huuuge love for dance. hahaha from co-captaining 08 steppers, to choreographing and dancing in harvard's vietnamese dance troupe, to thinking about joining the asian-american dance troupe, to also thinking about trying out for expressions (the hip-hop dance group)... haha and really liking choreography and freestyling in general... it's been a really fun experience... hah and i'm already planning ahead for 08 steppers' next show, next year in march, hahah cause that's how much i love steppin.
in addition to going from counselor to coordinator to director for chinatown afterschool (chtnasp - asp aka afterschool program), i'm also now a co-chair of chinatown committee, which overlooks 5 public service programs in chinatown: ESL, Citizenship, Teen, Big Sib, and Afterschool - which all serve their own constituent communities. I really look foward to making some great changes to the way committee handles working with public serivce in both the harvard community and boston's chinatown community.
... hmm gotta go now, so i'll continue this later... haha prolly tomorrow =D ... more deeper thoughts then... haha bed time! yes! at midnight! woooot! hahaha it's the earliest i've gone to bed... technically.. i think... =P hahaha yup yup...
signing off,

got to Shanghai June 17th. Spent lotsa time with the family. aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins. ate a whole lotta seafood. and a lot of food period. weather was actually not that hot... well for some days. spent like (not even) a day with Annie... due in part to her getting there on July 5th, and then us both being busy, her with touring, me with well, bell's palsy. oh yea. i've got a reoccurence of bell's palsy... poooh.. aka. partial facial paralysis.. well in this case, this time, it's not as severe... haha so i'd call it partial facial muscle weakness.. but yea. i'm in the process of recovering. got shot many times with many needles.... ouuuch... haha had my first MRI taken. umm... saw many chinese wu-da pian's....
